How to Get Tobacco Stains Off of Your Teeth

If you use tobacco, you are probably well aware of the fact that tobacco products can stain your teeth leaving them yellowed or even brown looking.

In addition to the staining, tobacco products are harmful to your overall oral health because they greatly decrease your saliva production leaving your dry mouth to become a breeding ground for bacteria. If you have recently quit using tobacco products, first of all, congratulations to you! Second of all, you may be wondering how to get rid of those stains.

Restoring Your Smile After Tobacco

Giving up tobacco products such as smoking and chewing tobacco is not an easy thing to do, so we applaud you for taking care of yourself and quitting. The nicotine and tar in tobacco can leave behind brown spots on your teeth by sticking into the microscopic pores in the tooth enamel. Over time, these particles build up and this is what causes the stains.

While they can be difficult to remove, it can be done. At home, you can try brushing your teeth with a mixture of baking soda and water once per day to gently whiten your teeth, and in our office, we can help you do so much more.
