You have made a great investment in your smile and in your veneers and you have bolstered your self-esteem and are feeling fantastic. Veneers can be very expensive, so protecting that investment is essential. Keeping Those Veneers Looking Great is Really Pretty EasyStay away from those beverages that can stain your teeth so easily – and your veneers too. Drinks like coffee, tea, red wine and even a lot of fruit drinks can be damaging and stain your new veneers. If you enjoy those dark pigmented drinks you can help yourself out some by drinking through a straw and be sure to rinse your mouth after drinking all these things will go a long way in helping your veneers stay looking good for a very long time. Never use your teeth as a tool. I know it is tempting, and most people have probably done it, but just don't. We have all seen that guy at the local bar who is trying to pry the bottle cap off using his teeth, or maybe use their teeth to unscrew a cap. These actions put tremendous strain on your teeth and any cosmetic, restorative work you have had done – including veneers. Consider wearing protective mouth guards if you play sports and not just if you wear, veneers, but especially if you wear veneers. Today's mouth guards are very light and much less bulky than they were several years ago, have the dentist that does your veneers custom make a guard for you. If you smoke, you should seriously consider not smoking at all with your new veneers. Your veneer is made of porcelain which means it can never decay, but the tooth-supporting the veneer can still develop a cavity or an infection surrounding the gum. Be sure to always brush and floss regularly to remove any bacteria and plaque build-up and to help keep your veneers looking their best. If you are considering have veneers on your teeth or have had veneers put on your teeth recently and have concerns about their care, what you should do or wear, or where your veneers should go, we urge you to call our office and set up and appointment. That way, we can talk to you regarding your concerns. |
