Who is a Dentist

Posted on 5/9/2022 by Dr. Jae Seon Kim
Who is a Dentist A dentist is trained personnel who gives health care to the mouth and the teeth. Regular visits to a dentist are essential for healthy teeth as the dentist can notice any condition that might be developing. Good oral health helps in preventing complications in the mouth and other parts.

The Most Common Dental Problems

Tooth decay, also called dental cavities or dental caries, tooth decay results when bacteria form a sticky substance called the plaque. These bacteria release acids from the sugars in the body; the acids eat away the enamel and damage it; after that, the acids affect dentin which is the layer which is beneath the enamel. Breakdown of the tooth results in holes or cavities inside the teeth. The holes lead to toothache; other signs of tooth decay include an unpleasant taste inside the mouth, foul odor, and there can be the presence of brown spots on the teeth.

The dentist can treat this condition. They can prefer to use dental fillings, root canals or crowns. Tooth decay can be avoided by maintaining proper oral hygiene. Gum disease is an infection caused by plaque buildup on the teeth. A deep cleaning process can treat gingivitis by a dental professional. To avoid gingivitis, one is advised to brush the teeth after every meal to prevent the building up of plaque.

Ailments that a General Dentist Can Treat

A foul odor is one of the most common dental problems. Bad breath can result from cancer, acid reflux, infections, dry mouth, medications, and bad oral hygiene. A dentist will examine the exercise and prescribe the recommendation to rectify this solution. Mouthwashes are highly recommended for patients with a foul odor. Another common dental problem is broken or cracked teeth caused by accidents, mouth piercings and grinding of the teeth while sleeping. A dentist can recommend dental fillings to fill missing spaces as well as dental implants can also be used to replace missing teeth.
