Ceramic Restoration Seattle WAFor many years most restorative materials contained metal, and many patients have asked those to be changed due to aesthetic concerns. Despite the strength and longevity of amalgam fillings, fears about mercury used to bind the metals have also played a part in the modernization of dentistry. At Pacific Modern Dentistry, we offer a variety of ceramic restorations to our patients. The technology we use in dentistry has improved to fit the needs of modern patients who are concerned about how their smiles look. In the past, having metal fillings was not frowned upon, but now, it could bring unwanted attention to your mouth. According to recent data, your smile has a lot to do with the way in which others perceive you. Advantages of Ceramic RestorationsThere are distinct characteristics that make ceramic restorations more attractive than using metal. With the use of computer-aided design and manufacturing, also known as CAD or CAM, we can make a new bridge or crown right here in our office. Using the technology allows us to speed up your treatment significantly. The most revolutionary of these systems is CEREC, which enables us to make your new crown in about an hour. Scientists are always working to improve the quality of ceramic restorations. As more and more patients are choosing this type of material, the labs that work on them are becoming better at making those materials more durable and flexible. Polycrystalline zirconia is used with CAD technology to create a substance that looks like your natural teeth and is more durable. Using polycrystalline zirconia, also means that less of it is needed for a filling, so we don't have to preserve more of your enamel. We can also use this material in longer bridges and partial dentures. Same Day Ceramic RestorationsWith all these advancements in dentistry, we can now offer same day ceramic restorations which are extremely popular with our patients. The advantages of being able to do procedures in one day not only saves in treatment time and visits but the materials are more durable than ever. This technology is also ideal for filling larger cavities and protects the enamel from bacteria very successfully while providing a perfect fit and look. What to Expect with Ceramic RestorationsWith new materials introduced regularly, ceramic restorations are more durable and protect your teeth better than ever before. There is nothing new about the way in which we repair your teeth with these restorations. First, our dentist numbs you the same way as if you were getting any other filling. In general, less drilling and filling is needed because of the properties of the materials being used. After the tooth is prepared for the procedure, we use a small camera to take a scan of your tooth. We use this image to create your custom-fit ceramic restoration made to match the color of your teeth from a single block of porcelain right in our office. Once the restoration is complete, we polish it to give it the luster and shine of natural teeth. Then we test it before bonding it in place permanently.
