Gum disease is a commonly discussed problem in many adult patients. Many have heard the terms associated with it, such as periodontal disease, gingivitis, tartar and more, what is less discussed is the damage it can cause. Patients who suffer from continual or persistent gum disease, known as chronic periodontitis, can have damage to their soft tissue and bone occur. Soft tissue damage can be seen through gum recession, meaning the tissue pulls away from the bacterial infection while simultaneously pulling away from your teeth.

Plaque and tartar naturally settle on and along the rim of our teeth. Ideally, we brush it away twice a day removing the plaque which is filled with decay causing bacteria. When we don’t remove it, or just miss it, the plaque has an opportunity to slip between the teeth and gums along with the bacteria. Our gum tissue is unequipped to fight the bacteria, so it will display symptoms of infection and then pull away from the source that is causing the infection, also pulling away from the tooth. We don’t want this to happen, it leads to tooth loss and is the number one reason for tooth loss in adults.

What is Pinhole Rejuvenation?

Pinhole rejuvenation is a minimally invasive treatment designed to encourage healthy tissue growth. In many cases, this treatment can be used instead of traditional grafting and has a high rate of success.

Patients like this rejuvenating treatment because:

•  Minimally Invasive: Standard grafting treatment is known for being painful with longer healing time. Instead of removing tissue and stitching it in, pinhole treatment does not use a scalpel or sutures. Instead, we create a single pinhole incision that we then use specialized tools to guide gum tissue back into place. We then use collagen to enhance treatment and encourage growth. The pinhole incision does not require stitches to close and often heals within a day.
•  Considerably Less Pain: Surprisingly, patients delay necessary treatment for fear of pain. Pinhole rejuvenation can be completed with considerably less pain or discomfort than traditional grafting methods.
•  Rapid Treatment: Traditional grafting is done very slowly, often taking months to complete. Pinhole rejuvenation is usually completed in one sitting.
•  Great Results: Pinhole rejuvenation boasts a greater than 90% success rate which parallels traditional grafting methods.

We can restore the health of your teeth and gums using both restorative techniques and cosmetic dentistry advantages. Our team can help you achieve the beautiful smile you deserve. For more information, contact our Seattle office at (206)284-4505.
