Teeth Whitening Seattle, WA
Your teeth are a major component in the quality of your smile and how they look matters. How white or bright the coloring of your teeth appear can alter your entire facial appearance. With time, teeth can lose their clean appearance and begin to show their age. At Pacific Modern Dentistry, we offer a variety of cosmetic dental treatments, but few deliver the same results as quickly and cost effectively as teeth whitening. Discolored teeth is not a sign of doing anything wrong, it’s simply a sign of use. There are numerous factors that can contribute to discoloration but the most common culprit is what we consume. Our teeth begin to lose their brightness from consuming foods and beverages that are dark in coloring, or contain natural staining properties such as berries and tomatoes. After a while, your teeth can appear dull, dimming the quality of your smile and in some cases even cause your confidence to plummet. Often, a dental cleaning can remove many surface stains, but it may not be enough. We can erase the wear that comes from regular use and restore the dazzling white gleam to your smile by simply whitening your teeth.
How are teeth whitened?
When your teeth have become discolored, we can help. At Pacific Modern Dentistry, we offer both in-office treatment completed by our team, or a kit designed to be used at home in your own time frame. Both treatments are designed to eliminate any extrinsic or outer layer stains, helping to restore their natural white coloring while also enhancing the beauty of your smile.
In-Office Whitening Treatment
Having your teeth whitened in our office is completed in about one hour. Since treatment is controlled, we are able to use a strong prescription strength peroxide based gel. The strength we use can not be purchased at a store nor is it present in any store bought teeth whitening product. We begin with the placement of a dam, or separation, between your teeth and gums. We do our best to prevent contact between the gel and gum tissue. The gel is then painted onto the teeth and left to sit for a period of time. Depending on the level of staining, or desired level of whitening, we may repeat this step multiple times. Additionally, we may decide to apply laser light to speed the process.
At Home Prescribed Whitening Kits
Besides in-office treatment, we can customize a prescribed kit for use at home. This may be used by patients who want to whiten in their own time frame, or have had their teeth whitened in office and wish to occasionally touch up at home. The kit will include a less powerful, but still prescription strength, peroxide gel.
Store Bought Whitening Products
There are many over the counter products available in the oral care aisle of most stores. These products often advertise amazing results in little time for an affordable price. However, these products generally contain low levels of bleaching agents, meaning that it can take many applications to see even a slight difference. While they can be helpful for minor surface stains, they can rarely achieve the drastic results most patients are looking for.
Is Teeth Whitening Safe?
Teeth whitening is very safe. The biggest risk is tooth sensitivity. For most patients, sensitivity is temporary, and only lasts as long as your treatment. Toothpaste designed for sensitivity can help to manage the discomfort you experience. Once your whitening treatment is complete, the sensitivity should disappear. With professional teeth whitening, we can help to restore the dazzling white color to your teeth, enhancing the beauty of your smile and boosting your confidence.
